8th Annual Mental Health Awareness Month Book Fundraiser

For the month of May, Jenn and I will be donating the proceeds from all sales of the Chaos Station series to the 8th Annual Mental Health Awareness Month Book Fundraiser, benefiting the Keith Milano Memorial Fund at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

I chose to participate in this fundraiser, in part, for Felix, the character I wrote in the series. I can’t remember if we actually ever stated, plainly, in the books, whether Felix suffered from PTSD. It should have been obvious. As a former POW who’d lost everything–his family, his lover, his home–Felix begins the series in much the same condition as his beloved ship, the Chaos. He’s held together with spit and duct tape. His crew is his new family, the ship his new home. His heart is a blank space. His head? He doesn’t go there and would prefer we didn’t either.

I did go there, over the course of five books. Tugging Felix through adventures that were both harmful and healing. At times, writing him brought me to tears. He was in so much pain and my outline only pointed toward more. In the third book, he broke, and it was kind of awful. Continue reading “8th Annual Mental Health Awareness Month Book Fundraiser”

A Family for Felix and Zed

I created Sim!Felix and Sim!Zed last year to celebrate two years of Chaos Station. I had so much fun playing the guys in a contemporary setting and couldn’t get over how much like their story counterparts they were. I selected their traits, so it shouldn’t have been as surprising as it was to see them acting like Felix and Zed. It was the little things. The stuff they did when I wasn’t watching over their shoulder. Their reactions. And the way their relationship blossomed out of the friendship they started with.

If you haven’t read the story I wrote for them last year, using screenshots from my play time, click here. With the third anniversary of the Chaos Station series approaching, I revisited my two favourite Sims and prepared to get busy with the kids I’d promised them. Celebrating Two Years of Chaos Station

2-years

Chaos Station released two years ago today! Because I miss these guys, I decided to recreate them in The Sims 4 and play out the lives they couldn’t have in the 24th century. No war, no space-faring or military careers, nothing to get in the way of their happiness.  I wasn’t at all surprised by how much fun I had replaying Felix and Zed’s love story. What amazed me was how much like the guys my Sims turned out to be. Sure, I designed them and gave them all the right personality traits. But when left to their own devices, they did things that Felix and Zed probably would have done. It was awesome to watch. Continue reading “Celebrating Two Years of Chaos Station”
